Eleven-year-old Owen Barfoot has been selected to play with the Draft Day Canada (2008 age group) hockey team that will represent the nation in Stockholm, Sweden at the European Summer Series tournament.

The Georgian Bluffs native plays for the Grey Bruce Highlanders triple-A program.

The European Summer Series is an international tournament where selected triple-A hockey players have an opportunity to play against some of the best players from the United States, Italy, Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden and Norway.

The ten-day invitation-only tournament starts on July 24.

Owen, along with his parents Kim and Chris Barfoot, will travel to Sweden for the tournament.

The Canadian team will have two team practices in Finland before heading to Sweden.

Owen also competed with Draft Day Canada last year in Italy and finished the tournament leading the team in points.

Owen has played with the Shallow Lake Lakers minor hockey program since the age of four before moving to the Highlanders triple-A program in 2018.
