Local hockey player invited to international tournament

Ten-year-old Owen Barfoot has been selected to play with the Draft Day Canada (’08 age group) hockey team that will represent the nation in Bolzano, Italy at the European Summer Series tournament.

The Georgian Bluffs native plays for the Grey Bruce Highlanders AAA program.

The European Summer Series is an international tournament where selected AAA hockey players have an opportunity to play against some of the best players from the United States, Italy, Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden and Russia.

The ten-day invitation-only tournament starts on July 25.

Owen, along with his parents Kim and Chris Barfoot, will travel to Italy.  Owen has played with the Shallow Lake Lakers minor hockey program since the age of four before moving to the Highlanders this year.
